Elementary Technology
Kindergarten students use iPad apps and the website Starfall in their classroom to practice sight words, math activities and phonics.
Grades 1-4 students receive a weekly visit from the mobile iPad lab. During this time, they work on the iPads to advance their technological knowledge, learn how to navigate the web, learn digital citizenship, and use online tools. One of the greatest skills that is instilled in this age group is Digital Citizenship – how to communicate and act online, as well as how to protect themselves in virtual settings.
Some of the digital tools that we use include the following:
- Kahoot – game-based learning platform used for assessment
- Plickers – enables teachers to collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices
- GoAnimate –animated video creation
- VideoScribe – whiteboard-style animation creation
- Padlet – virtual bulletin board for collaboration and communication
- WordCloud – creation of pictures using words
- Coding – computer science application skills
- Gamification – utilizing games to learn
- Game Creation – using basic drag and drop coding to create video games
By fourth grade, students will be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher).
In addition to weekly mobile lab visits, classrooms are equipped with iPads. Classroom teachers use iPads as tools to further student learning through the use of apps and online materials.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY
The Middle School Technology Program is designed to build upon the knowledge and experiences students gain during elementary years. Middle school technology focuses on Coding, the Adobe Suite, Internet Researching, Presentation Software, and the future of technology. Students learn to utilize skills while gaining experience in the technological areas needed to become successful in high school, higher education, and the working world.
The middle school program utilizes Canvas as its LMS (learning management system). Designed specifically for teachers and students, Canvas is a cloud-based application that connects all the digital tools and resources teachers use into one simple location. Hundreds of apps integrate seamlessly within Canvas, empowering teachers and students with relevant and easy-to-use tools to make teaching and learning more engaging. Providing students with exposure to this type of learning platform while still in middle and high school will equip them to become more successful as they encounter integrated learning at the collegiate level.
HIGH SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY
The High School Technology Program provides students with a specified approach to learning. Emphasis is placed upon Computer Science, Graphic Design, Video Production and Broadcast Journalism. This year, we are partnering with SeverStar to provide AP Computer Science and Digital Information Technology as part of our High School program. Digital Info Tech is an exciting course that will provide you with the foundational skills needed for exciting careers like game development, military defense, web design, and software engineering! See how changing technology can help you fulfill your role as a keeper of Creation. In this course you will explore Microsoft Office online applications, web design, emerging technologies, operating systems, project management, communication methods, Information Technology careers, and much more while recognizing the value of these to the practice of biblical stewardship. Learn about your strengths and how they relate to different career paths. See how computer technology can help you serve others and as you grow in your ability to manage the amazing resources God has surrounded you with for His glory.
Video Production/Journalism and Broadcasting provides students the opportunity to utilize graphic design and Premier Elements to create and produce weekly announcement videos. Video production techniques such as storyboarding, composition, lighting and audio are applied to various projects. Students are challenged to develop fundamental skills in the production of journalism through multimedia, web, and broadcast platforms as well as develop a knowledge of journalism history, ethics use, and management techniques related to the production of journalistic media.
