ACADEMICS
Middle School
Educating the minds and hearts of students in grades 6-8
You remember how you felt in middle school. You weren’t a little kid anymore, but you weren’t old enough for the freedoms of high school. You may have even felt a bit unsettled in those in-between years, but it doesn’t have to be that way for your child.
At Southwest Florida Christian Academy, we don’t rush through these years. Instead, we value your child — and this age group — because this time matters.
Your pre-teen is growing physically, emotionally, socially, and academically. They are learning to embrace their talents and interests, deepening their faith, and beginning to really explore the person they want to become.
This is a critical time to surround them with people who will lift them in prayer, welcome them as friends, challenge them to do their best, and model what it means to live for Christ.
Below, you’ll find a brief overview of what our private Christian middle school offers, including:
Building a culture focused on Christ’s love.
Navigating conflict and building healthy relationships can be tricky at any age, but especially so for pre-teens who are just now gaining more independence and searching for a place to belong. We guide our students through this process by teaching them to:
Care for themselves and each other.
Besides daily Bible classes and weekly chapel, our students meet once a month in Impact Groups, where they discuss topics from a biblical perspective and take time to pray together. Plus, they use this time for discipleship and to build and strengthen friendships that last for years.
Form authentic relationships.
Teachers meet students where they are academically and emotionally. They are intentional in building relationships and mentoring students.
Develop character.
It’s easy to notice when someone’s character needs improving, but we strive to notice and highlight the good. Our program “Caught Making a Good Decision” allows us to recognize and reinforce things like integrity, patience, grace, and helpfulness.
Make wise choices.
Because we know our students well, we notice when something is troubling them. We mentor and guide — and aren’t afraid to ask questions that challenge them to dig deeper.
Providing a Future-Ready Education
Academic Rigor
Our college-preparatory program meets students where they are and guides them through building the knowledge and skills they need to shine in high school, college, and vocation. We offer accelerated instruction in English and math.
Leadership Opportunities
Seventh and eighth graders have the opportunity to take a weekly class through our Student Leadership Academy, which helps students identify areas of giftedness, implement goals, learn and practice debating skills, and develop and participate in service learning opportunities. Plus, your pre-teen could be involved in student government, practice leading an athletic team, or participate in other extracurricular activities.
Enriched Learning
Part of learning is discovering and developing interests. We help students do that by offering everything from art, journalism, and sign language to robotics, coding, and expressive communications. Students also enjoy our top-notch classes in drama, band, and choir.
Competitive Athletics
Lessons, especially in character, come on the field and on the court, too. Our robust athletics program allows students to choose from volleyball, football, basketball, cross country, cheerleading, swimming, wrestling, soccer, golf, track and field, baseball, softball, and tennis.
Preparing for High School and Beyond
Setting them up for success — today and tomorrow.
Everything we do at SFCA is designed to help your child thrive. The result? Our middle school students are confident, responsible individuals who are ready for high school.
Life Skills Guidance
Students benefit from meeting with a counselor who visits each classroom once a month to help teach planning, organizational, and relationship-building skills. As the year progresses, we turn more responsibility over to the students so that they can practice in a safe place.
Personalized Class Schedules
With help from a counselor and their families, students select electives, extracurriculars, and courses. (Test scores influence which English and math classes are chosen.)
Intentional Mentorship
Every Wednesday, teachers stay after school to offer extra help and mentorship to students — but really their doors are open at any time to assist students.
Creating a Safe Place to Learn and Grow
Environment matters, and students in middle school crave a sense of community, safety, and security as much as younger children. Our K-12 campus in Fort Myers, FL, has all of the modern safety features, including a safety team that cares and is extremely attentive to our campus.
